Bell, Chris

Chris Bell currently serves as the technology coordinator and lead technology teacher for Julian Charter School, a K-12 independent study program based out of San Diego County. Additionally, he is a consultant for online learning and an edtech professional development trainer for the Orange County Department of Education. Chris is a Google Certified Teacher, a Google Apps EDU Certified Trainer, a Lead Learner for the CUEtoYOU Speakers Bureau; he is an Orange County CUE board member, and chair of CUE/iNACOL CA e-Learning SIG (eLSIG). He is also a sitting member of several advisory boards with a focus towards online learning.

 

Albright, Dr. Angela

Dr. Angela Albright is an emeritus professor at CSUDH in the School of Nursing and a faculty member in the Department of Nursing Research and Education at the West Los Angeles Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. She has been teaching online since the CSUDH SON moved their nursing courses to Blackboard in 2000 (one of the first nursing programs nationwide to do so).  Having worked through several iterations of Blackboard, she has gained some insights into the student and faculty experience.

Dr. Risa Blair has over 17 years of teaching and experience in higher education, corporate training, preparatory education, and online education. She works full-time for FedEx where she develops online training for her clients throughout the world. She teaches for Kaplan University’s School of Information Systems and Technology, and Grantham University, focusing on military students around the world. Previously, she worked for the Virtual College at Miami Dade College where she coordinated and trained faculty in the course development process. She has a strong background in technology and communications, business and management, instructional design, and online and traditional teaching

Scott Bledsoe, PsyD. is an assistant professor at Azusa Pacific University (APU), where he has been employed since 2007. He currently teaches online research methodology to graduate students of marriage and family therapy. In 2006, Dr. Bledsoe received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis on family psychology. Before embarking on a career in this field, he worked as a technology coordinator at 49th St School in South Central Los Angeles where he designed a computer-based curriculum for K-5 students.

Tori Bovard has been teaching in California community colleges and the CSU system for 18 years. She is currently a full-time instructor of psychology at American River College in Sacramento. She uses online technology to enhance her face-to-face classes and also offers courses that are delivered fully online. When she is not teaching, she can be found on the water; she is an avid rower and outrigger canoe paddler.

Dr. Robert Bramucci, Vice Chancellor of Technology and Learning Services, oversees the technology and learning services functions for the South Orange County CCD. Formerly with Riverside Community College District, he was district dean of the open campus, which served over 50,000 enrollees in online classes per year. He is a nationally-known speaker and author, and has served as a faculty member at various universities, including California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Bramucci holds a PhD in experimental psychology from Washington State University, an MAP in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Arkansas, and a BS in psychology from Arkansas State University.

Brian Bridges is the director of the California Learning Resource Network, a state-funded technology service that reviews electronic learning resources, free web links, data assessment tools, digital textbooks, and online courses for K-12 educators. Before this, he was president of the Computer Using Educators board of directors. Brian began his career as a middle school English, drama, and computer teacher, leaving after 20 years to serve as program manager for CTAP Region 6. Brian and his lovely wife, Mia, play doubles together (really) and have a house in Nanjing.

Catherine Cabiness, MS educational technology, has been teaching at the intermediate level for 16 years and has served as the history/social science department chair for 13 years. Catherine is a former mentor teacher and has presented at numerous professional development workshops on differentiation and technology.

Scott Campbell has been in the media and communication fields for over 20 years working in television and radio. He has worked as lead online course developer. He also has been teaching fulltime for seven years, which affords him the chance to develop and teach his own courses. His education includes a BA in speech communication from San Francisco State University, a MS in instructional technology from National University, and an MFA in interdisciplinary arts from Goddard College. His goal is to apply his skills in oral and media communication to enrich the online experience.

Kim Cozean has taught mathematics as an adjunct professor at Saddleback College for the last 11 years. Previously, he taught math as an adjunct faculty member at Mount San Antonio College and Pasadena City College. He currently teaches math and computer science full time at Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic High School. He recently completed his PhD in education examining online instructional techniques useful in a high school mathematics environment. He also holds an MA in mathematics from the University of Southern California.

At SVUSD Robert oversees online learning, professional development, grant writing, district technology integration, emerging technologies and much, much more. Currently, Robert is a member of the Board of Directors for Computer Using Educators (CUE), an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher, and was recognized as one of the “Best of NECC” presenters in 2007, 2009 & 2010.

Jeremy Cunningham is the education technology coordinator at Valley Christian Schools, San Jose, CA. He collaborates with K-12 teachers in their selection and application of education technologies for learning in the classroom, wherever that might occur – brick and mortar, online, or a blend of the two. He has previously designed instruction at Google, and now with Performance Instruction, LLC. He received his MA in instructional technology at San Jose State University. Una Daly is the associate director of the Community College Open Textbooks Collaborative promoting adoption and production of high quality and accessible open textbooks for community college students. Most recently, she was the pilot coordinator for the California Virtual Campus and e-Portfolio California project. She continues her active involvement in ePortfolio research and practice as the Foothill College ePortfolio coordinator. She also teaches in the Computer Technology Information Systems Department at Foothill College. Prior to her career in higher education, she worked as a software engineer and project lead at Apple Computer, 3Com Inc, and Motorola.

Kathryn (“Kathy”) Damm is an assistant professor at Nevada State College where she loves exploring new ways to use online tools in her classes. She received her PhD in experimental psychology at the University of California, San Diego. Recently, Kathy has participated in the Teaching Fellows Institute, a Blackboard Catalyst award-winning program designed to use technology to advance excellence in teaching and student service. Her teaching centers on promoting a love of learning and inspiring independent thought. She uses wide array of techniques to address diverse learning styles and to relate materials to students’ own lives for enhanced learning.

Dr. Kevin Davidson is presently an adjunct faculty member at Santa Barbara City College and is also an online mentor/faculty member at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey. Since 2006, he has taught exclusively online using WebCT, Moodle, and Blackboard Academic Suite. Kevin holds an MA degree in photography from Brooks Institute, and teaches online Photo I, Fine Art Photography, and Digital Darkroom classes. Additionally, he holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the Juilliard School and is active as a conductor; he is presently assistant conductor of the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestras. Kevin resides in Mandalay Beach in Oxnard, where he enjoys trying his hand at Asian and Italian cooking with limited success.

He has 10 years experience teaching at the high school level in social science, business and technology.

Grace Esteban is the technology program coordinator at Mid-Pacific ICT Center located at City College of San Francisco, California. She also works as Moodle QA tester at Golden Gate University in San Francisco and Interactive Quiz developer for CCC Confer at Palomar College, San Diego. Grace believes technology has the capability and power to answer today's educational challenges. She believes emerging technologies should be introduced and used in academia to further improve student learning outcomes. Grace has a master’s degree in instructional technology at San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree in mass communication at Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

Donna Eyestone has been teaching multimedia in the Bay Area for 15 years. Her Digital Media Skills course has won awards for online learning from both @ONE and the U.S. Distance Learning Association. In 1989, Donna completed a BA in computer music composition from Clark University. She received an MFA in electronic music recording from the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music in 1993. In 1996 she completed a MFA in integrated electronics arts from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. In 1999 she became a multimedia artist for Apple Computer, designing online training. She "retired" from Apple Computer to raise her daughter, and continues to teach online media courses for CCSF and LTCC and @One.

Prior to founding Flat World Knowledge, Eric spent 12 years in higher education textbook publishing with Thomson (now Cengage) and Pearson, where he had roles in sales, editorial acquisitions, marketing, and senior management.  Just prior to starting Flat World, Eric served as Director of Marketing for a division of Pearson.

He presents regularly at local, regional and national conferences and has also been an adjunct professor at Irvine Valley College where he taught HTML and internet courses.

James is Dean of Educational Technology, Learning Resources, and Distance Learning at College of the Canyons. He supervises the PACE program, distance learning, educational travel, the library, and the tutoring, learning, and computing lab. He is spearheading the college's Open Educational Resources initiative. He serves as Project Director for the statewide Distance Education Captioning and Transcription Grant, designed to support California community colleges in their efforts to make distance learning universally accessible. He also delivers training for faculty who wish to teach online. His previous academic home was the history department where he taught both on-campus and online.

Terry Gleason manages the distance education office at Fullerton College for North Orange County Community College District.Terry also is the college’s Blackboard technical liaison to the District. Terry earned an MS and worked in engineering from 1976 to 1990. While teaching in the California community colleges, he earned teaching certifications in Blackboard, Etudes-NG and Moodle. Awarded an MEd in 2004, Terry completed Client Side Programming and Web Programming certificates through The O’Reilly School of Technology in 2007, and participates in ongoing training with @ONE. Terry Gleason's web technology interests center around XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Jazz musician, and longtime audio/recording engineer and custom digital and
analog electronics designer, network and forensics consultant with his
company OnamiTech. John’s classes include Computer Forensics, Wifi, VoIP,
VMware, Network Security, TCP/IP analysis, WhiteHat Hacker Training, Cisco
Networking Academy, Mac Repair, Podcasting, Streaming and Internet Radio. He

Dr. Allen C. Grant serves as the director of the educational administration programs (online) at Drexel University. He is a veteran online educator, having taught online for Drexel, University of Maryland, Kaplan University and LSU. He has served as the chief learning officer for the Louisiana Virtual School and as a virtual education policy advisor for the Louisiana State Board of Education. Dr. Grant earned his PhD at LSU, his  MEd at George Mason University and his BA in history from the College of William and Mary. His research interests center around emerging technologies, global studies and leadership development.

Steve is the founder of the Classroom 2.0 social network, host of the Future of Education interview series, and co-chair of the Global Education Conference. He pioneered the use of social networking in education, particularly for professional development.

He blogs, speaks, and consults on educational technology. Steve runs the Open Source Pavilion and speaker series for the ISTE, CUE, and other edtech shows. Dr. Sheryl Hartman is known for her total commitment to her students. This recognition has earned her the college's highest distinction three times: the bestowal of an Endowed Teaching Chair. She is currently recognized with the Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón Teaching Chair. She combines state-of-the-art technology and time-tested teaching traditions to insure student success and brings creativity and a love of teaching to her classes. Dr. Hartman teaches graduate courses in the analysis of teaching for Florida International University. She facilitates an online faculty development and training program and has authored four chapters in the text, Keys to Excellence.

Dr. Henne has extensive experience in creating online learning environments that meet best practices in technology-based teaching, faculty development, student learning outcomes, and quality standards. She has been an instructor of computer business technology at L.A. City College & San Diego Mesa College, and an online instructor in instructional technology at National U and in critical thinking and problem solving at DeVry Online. Educated at UCLA in higher ed leadership (doctorate) and business-economic education (masters), she currently serves as president of DET/CHE (Directors of Educational Technology in CA Higher Education) and on Educause's Current Issues Committee.

Dr. Douglas E. Hersh is dean of educational programs at Santa Barbara City College. Previously Doug was a roustabout and roughneck on an offshore oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. He also triple-majored at Yale, earned a masters and doctoral degree in education, and has developed several technical innovations for higher education including the open-source human presence learning environment built on a basic Moodle engine that has been profiled in USA Today, Inside Higher Ed, TechEDge and other leading publications. An avid sailor, hang- gliding pilot, woodworker and horticulturist, Doug’s true passion is invention.

Bob Hiles has been the online program coordinator for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District for the past five years. In this capacity, he has developed online curriculum, provided professional development, designed courses, and maintained the district's learning management system. Concurrently, he teaches online and face-to-face classes at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, California. He also conducts training sessions for the Orange County Department of Education. Bob has given online learning presentations regionally at the Computer Using Educators (CUE) conference in Palm Springs and nationally at the North American Council on Online Learning (NACOL) Virtual School Symposium in Phoenix.

Peggy L. Hohensee is the director of the Kaplan University Math Center. At Kaplan, Peggy leads a team of math tutors who provide remote live-tutoring, math workshops, project review, a question and answer service, and instructional modules for students enrolled in courses ranging from developmental math to graduate statistics. Peggy has more than 15 years experience in education.  Peggy completed an MEd in curriculum and instruction and an MS in applied mathematics, both from Nicholls State University. Peggy anticipates graduating from Louisiana State University in December of 2011 with a PhD in educational leadership and research.

Sheela Hoyle has been a Counselor and Instructional Faculty at Cerritos College for over 14 years.  She   has successfully developed online courses including videos and interactive media to connect the students to the course materials.

She has utilized emerging technologies to support her students’ experience in the face to face and online classes that she teaches.  Sheela believes that integrating the use of technological advances in the classroom is an effective way to engage students with the material being presented, and it also promotes greater student learning outcomes. She continues to seek professional development opportunities to expand her knowledge of innovative technologies to use when developing online courses.

Sheela is a member of the Online Counseling Consortium and has presented at numerous conferences.

Rushton Hurley currently is the executive director of NextVista.org (a free educational video library) and runs the MERIT teacher professional development program at the Krause Center for Innovation (xrl.us/thekci) at Foothill College in Los Altos, California.  He also has been a Japanese language teacher, principal of an online high school, teacher trainer, educational technology researcher, and school reform consultant. Rushton has been a keynote speaker at numerous state-level conferences, and trains teachers around the country on affordable technology, the power of multimedia, and the professional perspectives and experiences of teachers at all levels.

Pat has been a leader in distance education in the California community college system for over 10 years. She has taught online, and now manages the MSJC program as well as serves as co-director of the @ONE project. She has designed DE program plans and DE courses from the ground up, and is passionate about providing quality educational opportunities to students whether face-to-face or from a distance.

Sandy Jones is an IT veteran with over 25 years of experience designing and delivering customer support and technical training. She designed, developed and conducted training in the fields of computer forensics, networking, help desk technical support, information security, digital imaging and specialized applications. She was instrumental in developing several A/S degree pathways, certificate programs and new curriculum for the Los Medanos Computer Science Department.

Ray Kaupp is an instructor at Cabrillo College, and a candidate (May, 2011) for an EdD from San Francisco State University. Before starting his education career, he was a technology executive at Metaphor, Apple, and several successful startup companies. Kaupp is also a product of the California public school system, attending San Diego Mesa College, earning a BS from San Diego State University and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. His interest is in improving student outcomes, scaling community college offerings, and addressing the equity issues arising from technology implementation in education.

Michael Kieley has andvanced degrees in architecure, fine art, and psycholtherapy. He teaches "Visual Thinking: a course in contemporary art & methods for enhancing creativity" at Loyola Marymount University. (www.learnvisualthinking.com) Rethinking his pedagogy after studying numerous cloud-based learning technologies, he began to reshape his course, sorting face-to-face learning experiences from what might better be accomplished online. The results were very positive, with most students reporting a higher level of engagement and a more personal connection to the course content. Kara Kuvakas is an adjunct professor at many California colleges and universities in various scientific disciplines (geology, chemistry, geography, and environmental science). Her classes incorporate interactive media, videos, and popular culture into the standard curriculum, and she strives to make even obscure scientific facts accessible to today's students. She received her BS in earth science from UC Santa Cruz (1998) and her master's in environmental science and management from UC Santa Barbara (2001). Her online classes are fun to create, easy to grade, and useful for students—the "perfect storm" for education.

This degree offers a "virtual sandbox" for educators to work and develop with media to engage and inspire learners. My passion lies within engaging all types of learners with new types of media.

David has been teaching online since 2008 at Grand Canyon and Ashford Universities. He has taught American Government and Environmental Studies online and has published extensively on issues related to online learning, experiential learning and the virtual classroom.

Bill holds a PhD in educational leadership from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an MA in educational technology from Pepperdine University.

Dr. Randy Nordell has been an educator for 21 years, and has taught at the high school, community college, and university levels; he is currently a professor in the Department of Business Technology at American River College. Randy is the author of Microsoft Outlook 2010 published by McGraw-Hill. He has taught a variety of computer, business, and teacher education courses, and has been a presenter at numerous state and national conferences, including California Business Education Association, Western Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, Texas Community College Teachers Association, and TechEd 2009.

Nancy A. Ortner, MS in Education, Online Teaching and Learning, is an ISTE (The International Society for Technology in Education) proficient instructor. She is a credentialed teacher at an independent study – charter high school in Carmichael, California with over 30 years of teaching experience. Mrs. Ortner is also a drop-out prevention specialist, and holds supplemental credentials in heath education and character education.

Michelle Pacansky-Brock has a background in community college instruction. In 2007, she received the national Sloan-C Excellence in Online Teaching Award and a Sloan-C Effective Practice Award in 2010 for her use of VoiceThread in online learning. Currently, she works for @One as an online instructor and the coordinator of @One's online teaching certification program. Michelle is also an active blogger with a global following of more than 120 educators, is partnering with Cisco Systems' GETideas.org as a guest blogger on topics related to global learning innovations, has served as a track chair for the Sloan-C Emerging Technologies in Online Learning conference in 2009 and 2010, and is a frequent presenter at national education conferences.

Osman Parada is a senior technical support specialist for EduStream.org, a digital repository developed by the San Bernardino Community College District for the California community college system. Jane communicates from Brooklyn, New York helping creators, companies, and institutions leverage Creative Commons licenses and CC-licensed content. A California native, she has degrees in Philosophy (B.A.) and Creative Writing from U.C. Berkeley. She is involved with the Peer 2 Peer University and has designed and facilitated a course on creative nonfiction writing. Before CC, she worked with AmeriCorps and the National Writing Project. She has an interest in pretty much everything, with a penchant for simplifying and spontaneous activity.

Jim has been involved in self-paced and online learning for 20 years. He has developed five online courses and many resources for different online courses.  Jim was the principal of a private self-paced school in the early 1990s and was a leader in development of a district online school in Nanaimo. Jim has worked as an administrator of a large high school overseeing online learning, and he has worked at an online school. Presently, he is helping to remodel the online department and Student Support Services model at the largest high school in Nanaimo.

Pembrook, Curtis

Curtis Pembrook is a computer lab faculty specialist and instructional designer at Mission College. His primary role is to work with faculty to develop elearning and to integrate technology into the classroom. He has also designed and facilitated courses for California Virtual Campus (CVC4), Mission College Workplace Learning, Cabrillo College Nursing, California Economic and Workforce Development, and the FAA. Most recently, he served as lead instructional designer for the EWD Reusable Learning Object initiative. Curtis is an expert at applying evidence-based research to the design and development of engaging learning experiences.

Petrello, Rena

A professor of mathematics for over ten years, Rena Petrello was awarded the “Mark Dever Award for Excellence in Teaching,” and served as both the department chair and as a representative on the Academic Senate Executive Council during her tenure at Oxnard College. Now at Moorpark College, Rena is actively involved in the development of online education. She developed a series of developmental math instructional videos after discovering the lack of suitable content for online students. They are now published through Cengage Learning, and they have won multiple national and international awards. Lesley Pye is currently working as a distributed learning teacher at Dover Bay Secondary School in Nanaimo, BC, Canada and is helping redesign the online and student support services model. Previously, she was the support department head for five years and a learning assistance teacher for ten years. Lesley holds a degree in Chemistry with a minor in Math and a diploma in Special Education. Lesley has been working with online learning for the past fourteen years and has been trained on Pathfinder, Nautikos and WebCT. She is presently supporting students in over 25 grade 10-12 subjects.

Asst Chair, Department of Math, Kaplan University, Gina joined Kaplan University as a part-time faculty member in December of 2005. By November of the following year she was promoted to Department Operations Manager, a position held until her current role as Assistant Chair. Gina earned her MA in Psychology from East Tennessee State University and a Certificate in Web Application Development from Capella University. She was the recipient of the 2009 Arts & Health Sciences Administrator Award for excellence in administration. Gina is currently working on her doctoral degree in Education Technology at Northcentral University.

Guy Reams is an instructor at Mt. San Jacinto College and the owner of a Network Engineering Firm based in Southern California. He holds an MA in education and holds various certifications from leading technology vendors. Mr. Reams has developed several technologies for the enhancement of both classroom and distance learning. Since 1997, Mr. Reams has been engaged in the creation and improvement of technical education, and distance learning tools. He participates actively in economic development activities in the region, career development, and other initiatives.

Carole Robinson, EdD has worked in curriculum development and instructional capacities with university, community college, museum, and secondary educational institutions in California and Montana for 21 years. She completed a doctorate in curriculum and instruction (with an instructional technology emphasis) at the University of Montana, Missoula. While in Missoula, Carole was appointed the first University of Montana director of online education, launching the pilot program in November of 1999. Currently as distance education specialist for Pasadena City College, Carole provides instructional design and pedagogical support, development strategies, and instructional materials pertinent to evolving information technologies in online curriculum delivery.

Monica Rothschild-Boros received a PhD in 1982 from UCLA in classical period archaeology. She teaches at both Orange Coast College and Cypress College. For OCC she teaches Cultural Anthropology and Nonverbal Behavior, and at Cypress she teaches Art Appreciation. (Cultural Anthropology and Art Appreciation are taught online.) In 2007 she won an Emmy for instructional programming for “Physical Anthropology: The Evolving Human," and in 2008 she received an Emmy nomination for “Cultural Anthropology: The Human Challenge.” Both series can be seen on PBS stations nationwide.

Lori Fuller Rusch is an adjunct faculty member at Citrus College and instructor at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She has been a lecturer at CSULA where she graduated magna cum laude and received her MA. Her research interests include public art in California and the relationship between Mexican Muralists, the artwork of Roosevelt's WPA, and current trends in Los Angeles street art. Rusch wrote a successful grant request for the National Trust for Historic Preservation for the restoration of historic art at a local school.

Not only is Ioan Elvis Sersea the evening ESL computer lab instructor at the Wilshire Center School of Continuing Education in the North Orange County Community College District, he is also a part-time online instructor with University of Phoenix, a full-time online high school teacher with Kaplan Academy of California, and the founder of Teach Me Educational Services, provider of numerous on-site literacy and test-preparation workshops, as well as online web tools, websites, and educational communities. He has over 140,000 international followers of his Facebook educational pages.  Ioan Elvis Sersea has earned two graduate degrees online from National University, a master’s in teaching and learning in 2004, and a master’s in English in 2008; more recently, he earned an Internet Marketing master certificate through University of San Francisco.

He has worked as an educator for 8 years and currently teaches technology at the Middle School level. He has earned teaching credentials in both Social Studies and Technology Education. As a part of his active involvement within the Educational Technology community, Ken is a Google Certified Teacher, an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Discovery STAR Educator, and serves on the board for the Computer Using Educators Los Angeles affiliate (CUELA). Deborah served as the science consultant at the California Department of Education (CDE) and as a regional director for the statewide California science professional development program (CSIN) after teaching middle school science for several years. Formerly a high school English teacher, Dr. Wagner has since served as an educational technology coordinator at the site, district, and county levels. He now serves as president and CEO of the EdTechTeam, which provides professional development and consulting services to schools, districts, and other educational institutions. In this capacity, Dr. Wagner is the CUEtoYOU professional development coordinator for Computer Using Educators, Inc (CUE), and the director of the Google Teacher Academy. He is also the educational technology coordinator for the California League of Schools (CLS) and the director of professional development for California Vision Technologies (CVT). In addition, he provides training for administrators through Orange County’s Administrator Training Program. He also works directly with school districts, independent schools, and other for-profit entities that provide educational products and services.

Mark Wagner has a PhD in educational technology and a master’s degree in cross-cultural education. His doctoral research focused on the use of video games in education, and specifically, on the potential applications of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORGPs) as constructivist learning environments.

Stephen Whiting is an associate professor teaching technology, business, and leadership courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. LeBaron Woodyard is currently a dean in the academic affairs division for the Chancellor’s Office, California Community Colleges. He is responsible for flexible calendar, library and learning resources programs, minimum qualifications, fund for instructional improvement, and other special projects in instruction and student success. He has over 40 years experience in higher education, and has served in the California State University system, the Claremont Colleges, and the California community colleges system.  30 of those 40 years have been in the California community colleges system, 9 at Laney College in Oakland, and 21 years in the Chancellor's Office. He has provided leadership in distance education and technology in the system since 1995.
